The “enemy” of the acoustic community is not so much noise per se, but rather any element that lessens the clarity and definition of an acoustic space, or dulls people’s inclination to listen. In other words, the acoustic community depends on information exchange, and anything or any habit that detracts from or inhibits that exchange weakens the sense of community.  Barry Truax
